Retired 1st Sgt. Kyle Montgomery Oct 19, 2017

Ret. Army 1st Sgt. Kyle Montgomery Jr., a member of Destination Church in Hopewell, offers to cover the costs of an Exchange customer during the church's "doforOne" campaign Oct. 10. During the effort, church members visited various installation retail establishments to honor the service of military members by requesting to pay for small purchases.

FORT LEE, Va. (Oct. 19, 2017) -- “Can I pay for that?”

Those were the words heard over and over as members of a local church repeatedly performed acts of kindness across Fort Lee Oct. 10.

Members of Destination Church, many of whom live and work on the installation, were seen at various locations across post – Starbucks, the Exchange, and the PXtra to name a few – standing in line with customers, surprising them with the words, “Can I pay for that?”

Kyle Montgomery, a church member and installation employee, stated the Hopewell congregation performed their deeds as part of a week-long campaign called “doforONE.” The concept is based on doing for one person what they wish they could do for all.

Oct. 10 was “Military Day,” and because of that, numerous Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Seamen were able to get in on the freebies as Destination Church picked up the tab as a way of saying “we appreciate you and all that you do”.
